In February Leonard Fu was awarded the loan of a 1680 Stradivarius at the 27th instrument competition of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben in Hamburg, Germany. The violin is privately owned and managed by the foundation in a fiduciary manner. Previous players of the violin have been Aleksey Semenenko and Agata Szymczewska.
Leonard Fu wins 5th Prize at 10th International Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in Hannover, Germany
In October 2018 Leonard Fu was awarded the 5th prize at the 10th International Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in Hannover. In the two final rounds he played the Mozart G-minor String Quintet with the Kuss Quartet in the Richard-Jakoby-Saal of the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover and the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E-minor op. 64 in the Big Studio of the Northern German Broadcasting Station with the NDR Radiophilharmonie under the baton of Andrew Manze.
As one of few chosen applicants, Leonard Fu has been invited to participate at the Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival 2018 in Putney, Vermont. The extensive five-week program focuses on chamber music making and includes coachings, rehearsals as well as public concerts. Among the faculty this year are Donald and Vivian Weilerstein (Weilerstein Trio), Mark Steinberg (Brentano Quartet), Nicholas Mann (Mendelssohn String Quartet), Kim Kashkashian, Roger Tapping (Juilliard String Quartet), Lawrence Lesser, and Peter Frankl.
In February, the Tempest String Quartet received the 1st Prize at the 4th edtition of the International ENKOR Chamber Competition. Over 500 judges all over the world listened to international entries and gave the Tempest String Quartet the highest average score making them the winner of this year’s edition. The jury praised the quartet for its good balance, beautiful sound, and expressive playing.
Successful extension of instrument loan at 26th Instrument competition of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben
Leonard Fu successfully extended his loan of his "Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi, Milan, 1750-1775" at the 26th Instrument competition of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben in Hamburg, Germany. His performance of the laureate gala will be broadcasted on the Deutschlandfunk on May 1st at 11am CEST.
Founded in September 2017, the Tempest String Quartet (Leonard Fu, Yiliang Jiang, violin; Freya Irani, viola; Annabel Hauk, violoncello) has won New England Conservatory’s Honors Ensemble 2017-18 Award with performances of J. Haydn and F. Mendelssohn’s string quartets. They will be performing a full recital in renowned Jordan Hall and other concerts in the Greater Boston Area as well as they are recipient of a scholarship to support their studies at NEC.

Together with 45 other young violinists, Leonard Fu has been invited to this year's ARD-Musikwettbewerb. His first appearance at this renowned competition will take place on August 29th at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with works by Bach, Paganini and Lutosławski.
